Wayfinding: Human Intervention is an accompanying publication to the exhibition of the same name. Featuring essays from the curator Jordan Barrant, writer Talia Kimberly Wright, and emerging art conservator Tempe Stewart, the zine situates these material-based explorations and moves through the works in the exhibition, memory, time travel and land.
The zine is co-published with Matiz Press and is a half-letter, saddle-stitched risograph printed on natural paper in bright red, kelly green, and black ink.
The exhibition Wayfinding: Human Intervention, took place from July 25th to August 30th as part of the Roots & Culture CONNECT Residency. The exhibition looked at three artists employing methodologies of wayfinding through a response to colonial interventions and the creation of their own. The exhibition featured Renee Royale (b. 1990), a research-based and process-oriented visual artist based in New Orleans and Chicago; Aidan Anne Frierson (b. 1998), a Chicago-based papermaker; and Maya Davis (b. 1999), a Detroit-based multidisciplinary artist.
